Creating Christian Games for Kids

Creating Bible Games For Kids - Parenting Like HannahOne of the best things you can do as a family is play games together. Family game time creates wonderful memories, encourages family bonding and can even help teach your child some godly principles.  Professionally manufactured board games are expensive and you need to purchase one for every type of different game you might want to play with your kids.

There is a way though to make game boards that will last and can be used for multiple games just by writing new game cards. To make this affordable, you need to make use of coupons for your local craft store.

Johnny Appleseed and Christian Parenting

Johnny Appleseed and Christian Parenting - Parenting Like HannahAt some point Christianity became about planting seeds. (Yes, I know there’s a verse about that, but if you recall there was also a mention of someone watering.) Suddenly, Christians were running around like Johnny Appleseed dropping little spiritual statements everywhere. The belief seems to be we have no responsibility for anything much deeper than that because it wouldn’t be seed planting.

Many Christians parent the same way. If they pray at meals, take their kids to services on a semi-regular basis and mention God occasionally, they have fulfilled their responsibility to plant seeds in their child’s life.

Encouragement for Moms

Encouragement For Moms - Parenting Like HannahBeing a mom has a lot of highs and lows. There are days you love your role so much it hurts. You want to cuddle those precious children forever. Then there are days full of bodily fluids, crying and frustration. You feel like you might just be the worst mom ever.

I was interested when offered a chance to review The Mother Letters by Amber and Seth Haines. This small book is full of encouraging words for moms. It is actually a collection of letters a variety of women have written to encourage mothers. Each letter has a theme and at only two or three pages, they are quick and easy reads.

Introducing Kids to the Cultures of the Bible

Introducing Kids to the Cultures of the Bible - Parenting Like HannahHave you ever thought about how many of the stories in the Bible make more sense if you understand the culture of the time in which it was written? Most of our children are not being raised in an environment where shepherd is an occupation. When the Bible talks about Jesus being our shepherd, the most our kids can do is think of sheep.

By not understanding the duties and attitudes of a good shepherd, our kids will miss a lot of the depth in those scriptures. The same is true for a lot of things in the Bible from foot washing to eating dates and figs to riding a donkey. When our children hear those stories, most of those things have little if any meaning to them. The culture and the context is lost and the scripture becomes a question mark or merely words on paper.

Worry and Christian Parenting

Worry and Christian Parenting - Parenting lIke HannahMaybe it’s just me, but it seems like worry and parenting come hand in hand into your life. It begins with the strange sensation that if you don’t watch carefully, that new little bundle of joy might not breathe. Pretty quickly most first time parents learn to control this original fear.

As your child grows the fear and worries just seem to change with your child. “Will my child ever sleep through the night?” “What if he never learns to use the potty?” “Will she always need a nightlight?” “Are they in the right school?” The list may vary from parent to parent, but it seems we all worry at some point.
