Updated Free Baptism Study Now Available

Newly Updated Baptism Study - Parenting Like HannahYou may not know this, but Parenting Like Hannah and its parent ministry Teach One Reach One actually began with the writing of a study for parents and Bible class teachers to do with young people who were expressing an interest in being baptized and becoming a Christian. I wrote it, because at the time my own daughter was interested in becoming a Christian and I couldn’t find anything I liked. As we studied together, I crafted the study from what we discussed and the questions she and some of her friends had on the topic.

Over the years, it has become one of our most popular free resources. As our ministry has evolved, we have been blessed with a volunteer who has far more talent than I in the area of graphic design. Bobby McVey, has taken our original resource and made it look professional. You and your friends and family can read our free baptism study in iBooks, from the website or print it.

We would love for you to share it with your ministers, fellow parents, relatives, friends and anyone else who may want to study baptism with a young person. Several have told us, it would also work as a guideline for studying baptism with an adult.

As always, our resources are free and you are welcome to share them. We only ask that you do not claim the material as your own or charge anyone for it. We have free resources, because we believe the information is too vital to restrict access anymore than absolutely necessary. Blessings as you share this study with those you love!

Helping Your Kids Understand the Gifts to Baby Jesus

Teaching Kids About the Gifts From the Wise Men - Parenting Like HannahEver wonder why the wisemen brought the gifts they did to Jesus? Wouldn’t there have been more practical gifts to give a young couple celebrating the birth of a child? Your kids probably have some of the same questions. They may even wonder what in the world frankincense and myrrh are. I know I did until just recently!

In the Old Testament books like Psalms, God said the Messiah would be worshipped as a king – even by other kings (Psalm 72:10-11). How do we know those things happened to Jesus? One way was by the presents the wise men brought to him when he was a baby.

Gold, frankincense and myrrh were three of the most rare, most special gifts someone could give during the time Jesus was born. Gold is not only beautiful and expensive, but it never rusts. Frankincense is a rare resin made from the bark of special small trees found in Africa and the Middle East. It was used to make perfume and medicine. Myrrh was also a resin made from the bark of a different tree than that used for Frankincense. It too was from a small tree found in Africa and the Middle East.

A Fun Way to Teach Kids About Hiding Sins

A Fun Way to Teach Kids About Hiding Sins - Parenting Like HannahI love to bake. To me it’s a relaxing way to show my love to others. Usually, I am a fairly decent baker. Last week though, I was tired and a bit distracted when I tried to make a batch of cranberry scones. I grabbed the bread flour instead of the normal self-rising flour I use in that recipe. I didn’t realize my mistake until too late, but decided to bake them anyway. Let’s just say the scones which are normally light and fluffy looked and tasted more like bricks. The absence of the leaven or rising agent made a huge difference!

There is a great scripture you can use while baking bread with your kids that can teach them a lot about the ability they will have to hide their sins. Find a simple bread recipe that calls for yeast (fast-rising yeast is the best if you can find it). Have your kids watch as the little granules of yeast foam when added to warm water or milk and sugar.

Fun Way To Teach Kids About God’s Word As Light

Fun Way To Teach Kids About Bible As Light - Parenting Like Hannah“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalm 119:105 NIrV) Children have a hard time understanding this verse for a lot of reasons. It’s a crucial verse for them to understand though, as you attempt to teach your children things that will strengthen their faith.

You see, understanding God’s word is a lamp and a light keeps them from believing what the world will teach them about scripture. To the world, God’s words are fiction or are designed to keep you from having fun.

Your children need to fully understand the exact opposite is true. God’s Words help them successfully navigate the difficulties of living in this fallen world. Those words will help your kids live the best, most fulfilling, productive life possible this side of Heaven.

Theme Bible Verses for Kids

Theme Bible Verses for Kids - Parenting Like HannahBack in the times of the Bible, the names given to children were meaningful. Not just that the names had an original meaning which may or may not have been considered. Children were often named for the hopes their parents had for their future or unfortunately for some (poor Jabez! I Chronicles 4:9) what they put their mothers through in labor and delivery.

When we were pregnant with our daughter, I had a name I loved. When we did the ultrasound and she waved…well let’s just say, Katrina (and the Waves for music fans) was a natural fit. We loved both of our daughter’s names meant purity. We even gave her a theme song “Walking On Sunshine” by of course, Katrina and the Waves.

I don’t know why we didn’t think of giving her a theme verse as well. The other day, a guy I went to church with as a child was celebrating the birthday of one of his kids. His wife posted their child’s theme verse as part of the celebration on Facebook. I absolutely love that idea. The idea of having a verse of scripture as a part of your identity from the very start.
