Often parents will tell me they don’t have family devotionals because they aren’t really sure what to do. They either feel like they don’t have enough Bible knowledge to do it “right” or that they aren’t creative enough to keep their kids engaged.
It’s important to remember your kids are starting with zero knowledge of God, Jesus or the Bible. No one is born knowing those things. When they are young, anything you teach them that you have learned is new important information to them. As they become older, they do start asking more questions. You don’t have to have all of the answers. Your minister, Bible class teachers, mature Christians and at times – even the internet -can help you find the answers.

It’s time for another free, fun, flexible family devotional. Sand is everywhere in the Bible. All of the wilderness mentioned in the Bible was basically a desert environment. Those stories that occurred in sandy environments can also teach your kids something God wants them to learn.
“That’s baaaad!” I’ll never forget how amazing we thought we were, because our parents had to keep asking if we meant “bad, bad” or “good, bad” when we told them something was “bad”.
Have you ever thought about how often weather plays a part in Bible stories? Storms can frighten your kids. Snow days or beautiful, sunny, warm days may make them happy. The people in the Bible had all sorts of reactions to the weather they experienced, too. What happened during the various types of weather also taught them something important about God.
We spend a lot of time in Christian education and parenting circles talking about the importance of exposing your kids to the Bible. We give you all sorts of tips on helping your kids transition to independent Bible reading. Your kids may be hearing a lot of Bible stories at Church or perhaps at a Christian school. Some of you may have children that could easily beat the average adult in a Bible trivia contest.
